Christian Dior
1958 Strapless Cream Gown by Marc Bohan
More Information
1958 Christian Dior London gown by Marc Bohan. Stunning and very rare cream crumb catcher gown with fitted waist and full skirt, with built-in corset with boning. In very good vintage condition with wear consistent with age; minor wear throughout sides and faint spots throughout. Has been taken to professional couture cleaners.
Christian Dior opened the London line from (1954 - 1975), a high-end ready-to-wear label which closely followed the couture lines. This dress is dated 1959 and shows how closely the London label was to the couture offering and how quickly they interpreted a couture design for their London RTW line. You can see a very similar dress presented in Dior's Couture A/W 1958/1959 shown at Blenheim Palace in England. It was Yves Saint Laurent's second collection. While Yves Saint Laurent was the head designer for Christian Dior Paris, Marc Bohan designed for the Christian Dior-London line from 1958 to 1960.
