Jean Desses
1956 Couture Ecru Silk Chiffon Drape Gown
More Information
1956 Jean Dessès Couture (Attributed) ecru silk chiffon drape gown. Off-white / warm ecru nipped waist dress with layered chiffon bust and tiered side-swept pleated drape skirting. Fully lined with white lining, featuring built-in boned bodice. Concealed back zip closure and padded tie closure at back. In very good vintage condition with light wear throughout: very slight fraying at top of shoulder strap (unnoticeable when worn unless upon close inspection); faint underarm discoloration; and pin-sized spots at skirting (unnoticeable when worn unless upon close inspection).
Provenance: from the personal private collection of designer Dominique Sirop. Similar piece featured in the Met Museum in yellow colorway. According to the Met Museum: "Dessès captured the expressive opulence of the era of haute couture’s birth; he modernized and softened the nineteenth-century paradigm with his fluid draping and airy textiles." Note that this dress does not have brand tag, but is attributed through silhouette, construction, and provenance.
