[RARE] S/S 1994 Azzedine Alaïa sky blue and white 'Houpette' gown. Extraordinarily rare cap sleeve gown in special long variation with slight train - as seen in the ad campaign, featured in many prominent museums, and photographed in Elle's February 1994 issue. Featured on Naomi Campbell in shorter black and white variation, and held in the Met Museum. Inspired by couturier Charles James' "La Sirène" dress, Azzedine Alaïa created this innovative dress that is revolutionary in its sculptural approach to the female form: a true piece of wearable art.
Fitted cap sleeve dress with slight mermaid silhouette and concealed back zip closure, featuring moderate train. Fabric Contents: 45% Acetate, 20% Rayon, 25% Nylon and 10% Spandex blend (has moderate stretch throughout). Soft nylon 'houpette' material designed specifically for the Azzedine Alaïa maison. 'Houpette' in French refers to a small puff - the culmination of which is a wearable 'puffball' in a uniquely form-fitting silhouette. This spectacular gown forms on the body like bones, with white contrasting vertical stripe at center and alternating curved horizontal stripes. A sought-after piece of fashion history in very good vintage condition with light wear throughout, including faint spots on interior hemline that are unnoticeable when worn.
